Two houses, whose backyards adjoin, set the scene for this buoyant and charming comedy where we meet four sisters in a small Midwestern town in 1938, their husbands, and offspring. This American "chestnut" about hope, lost dreams, love, and families, is a heart-warming, funny, and emotionally satisfying play. Recently revived on Broadway to stunning success, we are happy to bring this marvelously life affirming play to our stage.
Born in Evansville, IN, Paul Osborn is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he taught English for a while before studying playwrighting at Yale. Many of his plays, several of them dramatizations of novels, were produced on Broadway including Hotbed, A Ledge, Oliver Oliver, Morning's at Seven, The Innocent Voyage and A Bell for Adano. In addition, he wrote screenplays alone or in collaboration which include The Young In Heart (1938), Cry 'Havoc' and Madame Curie (both 1943), The Yearling (1947), Homecoming (1948), Portrait Of Jennie (1949), Invitation (1952), East Of Eden (1955), Sayonara (1957), South Pacific (1958), and Wild River (1960).
